The Junction Box is an enclosure that is placed on the back side of the solar panel with the main function to convert the current carrying ribbon from the panel into cable and/or connectors, see illustration in figure 1 to the right.
The conversion from the ribbon in the panel to cable and/or connectors is achieved inside the junction box as seen in figure 2 to the right. The unique method in which the Sunbolts junction box is connected to the ribbon could be seen in the picture above or in more detail over here.
There are several different sizes of solar panels but the most common in use are those represented in figure 3 to the right. However, the big one on the bottom is becoming rare. As can be seen, the three different sizes in figure 3 generate different amount of outputs and thus Sunbolts have two sizes of junction boxes, a 4-Rail and a 6-Rail junction box. The
4-Rail can be used on the 3-Rail and the 4-Rail solar panel, while the 6-Rail junction box can be used on the
4-Rail, 5-Rail and 6-Rail panel.
It should be noted that the most common junction box on the market is the
4-Rail junction box and the most common solar panel is the 4-Rail (6 arrays).
